Rewards and Remembrance
Rewards and Remembrance - Year 2
As part of the ‘Rewards and Remembrance’ topic Year 2 visited Eureka Park Memorial Gates to investigate how Remembrance Sunday is commemorated in our local area. They also investigated who died in the First World War and which groups had placed poppy wreaths and crosses there.
During this topic the pupils completed a historical enquiry and learned about the reason why we wear poppies, identifying where the First World War took place and which countries were involved, describing what life was like for soldiers in the trenches and what happened at the Christmas Truce.
The School Council members from Year 2 said ‘ We really enjoyed our topic on the World War One because we learned new things and the teachers make learning fun’.
Inspired by the ‘Rewards and Remembrance’ topic many Year 2 children made poppies in a variety of art media. Some pupils completed family research and discovered ancestors who had taken part in the First World War.
